Internship Location: Washington DC
Organization Type: Nonprofit
Policy Areas: Foreign policy
At the American Foreign Policy Council my primary duties were performing research for various books, policy papers, and monthly monitors. I completed work focused on politics, economics, defense, and human rights in various regions including but not limited to Ukraine, Russia, and China. I also assisted in events on the Hill and in the National Press Club. Aside from the work I was given weekly briefings with former interns, State Department officials, Pentagon employees, and other people in the D.C. foreign policy realm. The interns were also sent on field trips to the Pentagon, the Capitol, and other locations in D.C. for the sake of learning as much as possible and making the experience memorable. The interviews and field trips were incredibly useful to understanding how to get jobs in D.C. and understanding how the foreign policy apparatus functions. I would wholeheartedly recommend this internship because it not only gave me work that was more important than answering phones and administrative duties but it gave me valuable advice on life, policy, and my career. I was also given the ability to make connections with various foreign policy officials to help me find jobs later on. This internship is truly one of the finest programs in D.C. and I cannot recommend it enough.
