Alliance for Strong Families and Communities (Alliance) is a non profit organization that is committed to supporting various community based organizations (CBOs) in order to aid their communities. The organization is in partnership with thousands of CBOs around the nation who support a plethora of vulnerable communities. As a national strategic action network, the organization is driven to create a society that values equality and equity for all people. Specifically, Alliance works towards organizational excellence, population and wellbeing, educational success, and safety and resilience. With Alliance’s merger with Council of Accreditation (COA) the mission of helping organizations eventually achieve equity became more realistic. My journey as the Health Impact Intern at Alliance started in the spring of 2021. During this time my work was focused on our partnership with Morehouse School of Medicine (MSM) and their National COVID Resiliency Network (NCRN). I conducted key stakeholder interviews with CEOs of potential partners of NCRN which ultimately resulted in the development of the NCRN app. Alongside collaborating with MSM and completing community engagement tracking forms, I organized a 4 part Health Equity Webinar Series with a handful of extremely knowledgeable CBO leaders. I was able to also discuss policy changes as they relate to the social determinants of health and the journey towards health equity. I am extremely fond of Alliance- COA as it opened doors for me in a way that made me realize that there are many ways that one can help people.
