I have been working with the Wisconsin Department of Veterans Affairs (WDVA) as a Communication Specialist and Homes Liaison. I primarily work remotely, however, my position requires me to travel to the Veterans Homes occasionally. As part of my liaison role, I utilize my expertise in policy to draft communication-related “policies and procedures” that include recommendations derived from employee and leadership feedback. On the marketing side, I use both publicly available and collected data to craft narratives and take photos for public facing materials. This experience has given me the opportunity to employ strategies from my MPA, such as the use of a stakeholder analysis, and has shown me how important it is to have systems-thinking when making policy decisions. As I finish my degree, I am excited to continue to learn more about health policy and how to successfully make positive changes in this area.
