Wisconsin Department of Transportation

Internship Location: Madison WI

Organization Type: State Government

Policy Areas:  Transportation

This past summer I was a Program & Policy Analyst with the Department of Transportation Safety Bureau. I was selected for this internship through the State of Wisconsin Diversity Internship Program. My program was hybrid so I was able to have some days at home and others in the office. As a Program & Policy Analyst, I was responsible for analyzing federal law and regulations. I also reviewed state law and administrative rules in order to implement, administer, and automate safety programs at the DOT. Specifically, I looked at administrative code Trans 313. In addition to that, I had to coordinate between the Section, throughout the bureau, across the Division, and with private stakeholders to develop and implement changes and improvements to safety programs. I loved being able to communcate with private stakeholders and create platforms for them that were easily accessible. Lastly, I served as an assistant on various special programs/initiatives within the Department of Transportation. I was given a lot of responsibility and was impressed with the leadership within the division. I will be continuing my internship throughout the Fall.
