Internship Location: Madison WI
Organization Type: State Government
Policy Areas: Planning, Environment, Natural Resources
As a property planning intern at the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources, I worked with planners to research relevant policy issues and draft planning documents. As part of my internship, I wrote a policy memo detailing other states’ rock climbing policies. This required me to synthesize academic studies, analyze administrative code, and consult with state agencies outside of Wisconsin. I also completed the planning profiles for the properties of two regions, which involved compiling information about each property’s natural resources, facilities, and management concerns. Thanks to this internship, I am equipped to conduct policy research under minimal supervision. I can also write integral portions of a regional plan. This experience has left me well-familiarized with the components of the master planning process, and I hope to grow even more acquainted with property planning as I continue the internship in the fall.
