Internship Location: Madison WI
Organization Type: State Government
Policy Areas: Criminal Justice
As a Program and Policy Analyst for the Reentry Unit I was able to work on a variety of projects. These projects ranged from creating promotional materials for programs, to evaluating data and current programs/policy and everything in between. One of the larger projects I worked on was ensuring that data was being collected and reported correctly and then summarizing that data to follow up with our providers to ensure our programming was running smoothly. This internship also gave me the opportunity to tour adult institutions, sit in on program evaluations within the institutions, as well as shadow those who are working in the field; such as agents and their supervisors. This was also a beneficial position because the team works cross-divisionally with the Division of Adult Institutions, Division of Juvenile Corrections, and Division of Community Corrections, therefore if you are unsure of what you want to do in the future, this position gives you good exposure to various opportunities throughout the Department of Corrections. Overall, I really enjoyed the people that I worked with and the position as a whole. I would highly recommend this position to someone who is self-motivated, passionate about criminal justice policy and enjoys the different pieces of evaluating programs.
