Wisconsin Assembly Representative Lisa Subeck

Internship Location: Madison WI

Organization Type: State Government

Policy Areas: Health Policy

In 2023, I did a summer internship at the Wisconsin State Capitol and worked in the office of Assembly Representative Lisa Subeck. During that time, Rep. Subeck was the Minority Caucus Chair, representing the 78th Assembly district, which happened to be my district. My role in her office included tracking and filing new Assembly bills, drafting press releases, creating content for weekly newsletters, and preparing materials for committee meetings. I also followed up on constituent concerns, conducted research for proposed bills, and helped with general office organization. My academic pursuits have been primarily focused on healthy policy, so I was thrilled to be able to draft press release language related to reproductive health and Medicaid expansion. I was also able to research vaccination data that could be incorporated into co-sponsorship memos for a package of bills promoting and increasing access to vaccines. Overall, I learned a lot about the inner-workings of state government and the legislative process. My ultimate goal for this internship was to determine whether I might want to pursue career opportunities in state or national politics, and this experience has inspired me to seriously consider such options in the future.
