Internship Location: Madison WI
Organization Type: Nonprofit
Policy Areas: Health and wellness policy
During my internship at the Southeast Asian Healing Center (SEAHC), I played a crucial role in supporting the social and health needs of Southeast Asian refugee communities in Dane County, Wisconsin. My work primarily involved grant writing, where I proposed culturally relevant programs to address social isolation and language barriers among Southeast Asian elders. This experience taught me the importance of cultural competency and equity in public management, as well as the challenges of balancing limited resources with the need to provide comprehensive, inclusive services. SEAHC’s holistic and culturally sensitive approach, blending traditional healing practices with Western medicine, demonstrated the power of creating a supportive, inclusive organizational culture that values diversity.
