Internship Location: Baku, Azerbaijan
Organization Type: State Government
Policy Areas: Political analysis
This summer, I interned in the Public and Political Department of Azerbaijan’s Public Television and Radio Broadcasting Company in Baku. I assisted with distributing political news, scheduling interviews, and organizing events. Skills from the La Follette School—policy analysis, concise writing, and evidence-based communication—helped me contribute effectively. I applied agenda-setting and framing theories from class to real-world political communication. My tasks included monitoring news, writing analyses, and comparing global and local developments. I was surprised by how quickly editorial choices could shape public opinion. Seeing theory in action was the most valuable part of the internship. The fast-paced environment improved my critical thinking under pressure. I recommend this internship for its insight into media, politics, and public policy, and the practical skills it develops.
